Daphne Caruana Galizia was assassinated by a car bomb on the 17th October 2017. Repubblika and Occupy Justice, two non-profit organisations pressuring the government to ensure her killers are all brought to justice, organized a vigil in memory of the journalist on the fourth anniversary of her death.

Emma Coronel Aispuro, the wife of jailed Cartel boss Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was arrested at Dulles International Airport in Virginia in February 2021. It is alleged that she was heavily involved in running the cartel with her husband and also of helping him escape from US and Mexican authorities.

Mexico sues the US Gun Industry for causing 17,000 Mexican deaths a year

The lawsuit accuses the American government of being responsible for 17,000 Mexican deaths, and names Smith & Wesson, Beretta, Glock and others.

In Mexico there is very strict gun control. There is only one gun store in the entire country, and the government issues less than 50 gun permits a year. However it is estimated that half a million guns are smuggled into Mexico from the US annually. According to the lawsuit in 2019, 17,000 Mexican citizens were murdered with guns manufactured in the U.S.
