The Heat is on to Capture Matteo Messina Denaro, the boss of Cosa Nostra

Who is Matteo Messina Denaro?

Matteo Messina Denaro is believed to be the boss of bosses of Cosa Nostra. He is the number one most wanted man in Italy and has been on the run since 1993.

Capturing Messina Denaro is important because he is the last of the “Old Guard” leaders of Cosa Nostra still at large. He has been found guilty in absentia and given a life sentence for his part in the 1992 murders of anti-mafia prosecutors Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino. In addition, he was given a separate life sentence for being the mastermind of the bombings that occurred in Florence, Rome, and Milan in 1993.

The Italian government has offered a €5 million reward for information leading to the capture of Matteo Messina Denaro.
